GROUP ORGANIZATIONS

    
    ALTAR AND ROSARY SOCIETY

Meets on the first Wednesday of the month after the evening Mass, 6:30 p.m.  Prays the rosary before the 8:00 am mass on the first Sunday of each month.  Its main purpose is spiritual.  If you are interested in joining, please feel free to come to the meeting.


 
KITCHEN WORKERS

The kitchen workers at Saint Nicholas enrich our parish life with the gift of their time and cooking skills.  They provide good food for our bazaar and other events.  If interested in helping at any of our events sign the clipboards as they are put out.   


SCOUTS

Boy Scout Troop #62
meets every Thursday at 7:00 p.m in the Social Hall. This troop is open to all boys ages 11 - 18.

Cub Scouts Pack #62 meets every Thursday at 6:30 in the Parish Center. This pack is open to all boys ages 6 - 11.


CREDIT UNION

BVMSN (Blesses Virgin Mary and Saint Nicholas, Walnutport) Federal Credit Union where membership is available to church members and their families of either parish.  Hours are Mondays, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Saint Nicholas Parish Center.  We offer a variety of loans at competitive rate plus we provide loan and share insurance, other financial establishments do not.   


     CARE AND SHARE GROUP

This group was formed to assist those in need that may or may not be a member of this parish.  Some of the ways we could help include transportation, lawn and garden work, assistance with meals, any household needs, visiting the Elderly or hospitalized people.  We welcome all that would like to volunteer to help others, and if you have a need that we can help with, please contact us.


 

   SOUP KITCHEN


This is a group of men and women who gather together at Saint Nicholas and go to the Soup Kitchen in Allentown to prepare a meal for the needy.  This is done every 2nd Friday of the month.  They are always in need of baked goods to take with them.


 

EVANGELIZATION

 

   HERALD


Herald is a spirit filled, Biblical Theatrical group.  Its purpose is to bring the message of Christ’s Redemption during Lent in drama, dance, and song.  The group is comprised of people from grade school through retirement, from several Christian Denominations including Roman Catholic, UCC, Lutheran and Non-denominational Christians.  The group is based at Saint Nicholas Church but travels to other churches.  Everyone is welcome to become a part of this special family.  Help is always needed in all capacities, singing, acting, as well as back stage. 

   

 

LITURGICAL AND SPIRITUAL MINISTRIES

 

   LECTORS AND EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS

Men and women of Saint Nicholas parish are involved in our Eucharistic Celebration (Mass) as Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers.  New volunteers are always needed and welcomed.

 
MUSIC MINISTRY

Each Mass has a group of musicians and singers that volunteer their time and talent.  We are always looking for some new sounds and voices.  Our Music director will be glad to get you in contact with the group you are interested in.


       ALTAR SERVERS AND CROSS BEARERS

Our young people also assist at the Mass as servers and cross           bearers.  Boys and girls interested in becoming members should be at least in the 4th grade.


    CHURCH CLEANING CREW

Teams of volunteers clean the Church.  The cleaning takes approximately 1½ hours and is done at the crew’s convenience.  Depending on the number of volunteers, each team may be asked to clean the Church two of three times a year.  Volunteers are always appreciated.


   DECORATING COMMITTEE

Others give their time and talent in decorating the Church for special occasions, making banners, laundering altar linens, etc.


TEACHING MINISTRY


    PRE-SCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN

Classes are held on Sunday morning during the 9:30 am Mass to learn about Jesus in their lives.  Children are accepted from ages three and 4.  Classes run from September to May.  Registration is in September.

     

    PREP (Parish Religious Education Program)

We have Religious Education Program for children in grades one      through seven.  Our teaching staff is composed of volunteers and the program is constructed in such a way as to involve parents in the teaching. Classes run from September to May.  We also have a home study program for non-sacramental years. Registration is in September.

    

   SAINT JOHN NEUMANN REGIONAL SCHOOL

Saint John Neumann Regional School provides a Catholic Education for students living in the parishes of Saint Nicholas, Walnutport, Assumption, Slatington, and Sacred Heart, Palmerton.  The school is in two different building.  Kindergarten to third grades is in the Slatington building and fourth to eight grades are in the Palmerton building.

 


 

SPIRITUAL ENRICHMENT

 

     PRAYER GROUP


Meets every Monday evening at 8:00 p.m.  This is a group of people being led by the Holy Spirit to pray for the needs of others.  Please feel free to stop in and let them pray for your intentions.

  
   CHARISMATIC MASS AND HEALING SERVICE


Is held twice a year.  After the mass, you have the opportunity to be ANOINTED and PRAYED OVER for your special intentions.  All are welcome.


 

EVENTS

 

 

COFFEE AND DONUTS

 

Once a month, coffee and donuts are available after each mass on the third weekend. It is a great time to relax and be with your friends and neighbors. It provides an excellent opportunity for meeting new people. Come join us!

 

 

ANNUAL BAZAAR

 

Our annual bazaar is held on the first weekend in November. In order to make this event a success, we are always in need of art and craft items, needlework, Christmas decoration, anything knitted, crocheted, sewn, woodwork items, ceramics, baked goods, or any talent you may be willing to use and contribute. This is one of our big Fundraisers for St. Nicholas Parish.
